HEART-SHAPED KITCHEN GLOVES

In Luxembourg, Mother’s Day will only take place on the second Sunday in June. And for this special date, why not create something special, something your mother might use each day in her kitchen, something like a pair of kitchen gloves? Here an easy tutorial to sew some by yourself.

What do you need?

  • Template of a heart in paper
  • Piece of cotton in one colour (2 x ca. 20 x 20 cm)
  • Piece of cotton with a motive (2 x ca. 20 x 20 cm)
  • 2 x Cotton patting for 3 layers (or thermo patting)
  • Bias tape
  • White chalk
  • Ruler
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread in matching colours of the fabric

First draw half a heart on paper, cut the template out and pin it to the cotton folded in two.

Cut the heart out, repeat this move with the second piece of cotton. Now fold three layers of cotton batting in half; align batting template’s straight side with fold; pin, and cut out.

Superimpose the different layers: first the coloured one (face down), then the 3 layers of cotton patting before ending with the fabric with a motive (face up).

Pin all the layers together. Draw a chessboard with the white chalk and the ruler on the upper side.

Sew along the different lines to fix the layers and the chessboard pattern.

Fix the bias tape around the heart shape with the sewing machine.

Reserve ca 10 cm of bias tape, fold it in the length, fix it by sewing along the length, fold in two and sew it onto the kitchen glove.

If you have labels, just add one to finish to finish and ‘sign’ your glove.

Now repeat the whole for the 2nd kitchen glove.

Your pair of potholders are ready to be given away!
