MINI GARDEN IN A JAR

As you for sure know by now, I am regularly creating some original DIY ideas for re-using these practical empty glass jars from COCOTTES who are producing yummy dishes made out of healthy, varied and seasonal products… Now for the Easter tutorial, I will show you how to make some mini spring gardens in those jars.

For this you will need: tall or large jars, twigs, fake small colored birds, some fake small Easter eggs, washy tape, moss, yarn, glue, soil, scissors and some succulent plants which have the ability to thrive on limited water sources.

First put some soil in a tall jar, remove one or two succulents from their pot and plant them making sure the soil level remains the same depth on the plant. You can add either a layer of pebbles or moss (which you can easily find in the woods during your next Sunday  promenade) before adding some decorating elements like some small fake colored wooden eggs and feathers.

Use some glue to fix your bird on a small twig which you might have to shorten beforehand to the width of the jar. Let it dry, f.e. on an egg cup. In the meanwhile, cut some small strips of washi tape and fix it on a yarn (I used a thick and colored one) and cut it in order to create a miniature garland. As soon as the glue is hard, you can fix the yarn on each end of the twig.

Now comes, in my eyes, the most difficult part of this DIY as your hands need not to shake too much… Hang the twig with the bird in the jar keeping it in balance, you can fix the yarn on each side of the neck of the jar with some transparent tape. Now repeat the same step with the mini garland, which should hang above the head of the birdie.

If you use a smaller, but larger jar, you can glue the bird on the neck of the jar and fix the garland around the neck…
