THE HIGHEST BOOK PYRAMID OF LUXEMBOURG

Some years ago, I just loved to read and I was collecting books over books over books! Nowadays we have so many books (old school books, novels, fictions, non-fictions, etc.) that we do not know anymore where to put them! We’ve already transformed the kid’s room partly into a library so there’s no place left for their games and other toys…

I have to admit, that I just can read a book once (and never twice) and then I am unable to rent or give it away. I just need to possess it. In the past, I used to read at least one book a week, either in English, German or French which means that I do have a big collection. Nowadays, I’m getting lazier and I don’t read so much any more, that’s why I am buying lesser books too. But our library still remains huge! And I know already that nobody else will read the books again, cause, even if our daughter just loves to read, she wants to read the newer, current best sellers.

Now, I heard about the call to action by Libraire Ernster: they are collecting old books in order to build the highest book pyramid of Luxembourg! For each book they will receive, they will donate 0,1 € to the ALUPSE Asbl (an association for the prevention of child abuse). Once the pyramid achieved, all the books will be either redistributed or upgraded.  More infos about this action at ernster.lu

Isn’t this the right occasion to go through all our books, to sort those out we do really need to keep (the classics or the ones that might be interesting for our oldest) and those we could donate?

Beginning of the week, my husband and I did some book spring-cleaning! With each book I had in hand, I had to turn it around at least 2-3 times before I could put it into the give-away bag. With each book, old memories and souvenirs, happy ones as well as sad ones, came back to my mind…  This job was not as easy as I thought it would get… Even Kristof had to check each book in the give-away box and “rescued” even some of them!

At the end of our cleanup, we had 10 big bags full of books to donate, which made around 600 books! Switching cars, as my Mini could not hold 3 kids and 10 big bags of books, I filled Kristof’s SUV with the bags and the kids and we made our way towards the Belle Etoile, destination: the Librairie Ernster in the new part of the shopping mall.

After dropping off our books, we went to check how high the pyramid was already. It was a little disappointing… as it was the first day of the mounting of the pyramid!

On  Thursday morning, the pyramid looked like this:

And on Friday we have been back to check the evolution of the construction…

Until now, Libraire Ernster already received 16.000 books for their pyramid… Just wondering how much it will be by the end of the campaign!

Also thinking of a book spring-cleaning? Well now is the moment! You still can donate your books until May 3!
